Born in Ngecha village, Limuru Division in Central Province Kenya on 6th April 1975 after four years I was taken to nursery school in 1980 for two years and I completed in 1982. In 1983 I enrolled in Ngecha primary school where I schooled, on weekends and school holidays I was helping my parent in doing some work in home. After that I was to do homework and later extending my resting time in carving stones and drawing using pencil and charcoal. After completing primary education I joined Mishida Boys High School in Elbergon Nakuru District in 1991.

In 1994 I dropped high school due to lack of school fees. I stayed in the village for a period of one year helping my mother in various works like digging and feeding the cows, sometimes I was to do casual jobs for me to get money to sustain me and my mother because my Father died during the time I dropped out of school. After that one year my mother had managed to save some money and she decided to take me for an eight month carpentry course.

I completed the course I worked as a village carpenter for some time and that’s when I realized that God had given me a talent in art, so I decided to join other artists in our village. I was so interested in art furthermore I had the talent so I decided to take art as an occupation. I contacted my aunt who lives in Germany pleading to help me with art materials because my mother had no money to buy me the materials I also requested my aunt to market my painting in Germany the deal was good because she sold almost twenty paintings in Germany.

After working alone I decided to join Ngecha artist association in 1999 where I met Meek Gichugu who I shared my vision with and the other members. They accepted me in the group and I have been working hard to get my daily bread, up and down I have struggled and so far God has protected me and I am still doing art work. I do paintings, wood sculptures, I do coloured print and scrap metal sculptures, mosaic and mixed media

Born on june 6th 1987 at Ngecha village as the second child in a family of three. I was brought up in this village and joined Mahinga primary school and completed in 2002 where I attained a K.C.P.E. certificate. In 2003 February I was invited to join Kijabe Boys Secondary school. I studied here for two terms and in the third term of the year I sneaked out of the school due to what was popularly known in Kenyan schools as monoraization or molestation of new comers. I went home and decided never to join a boarding school. In that third term I joined a day school at Ngecha namely Gichuru High School. I studied here until 2004 third term where I changed my mind and took the advice of my parent to join another boarding school for the sake of a better future and off I left to Nyahururu Boys Secondary School. By good luck I was able to cope with life here till I completed in November 2006 and attained a K.C.S.E certificate. In 2007 February I joined Graffins College at Westland’s Nairobi where I studied computer engineering until November the same year where I completed for certificate but couldn’t study for diploma due to insufficient funds. My education ended here and I was out to find a job. But with but with bad economy and corruption finding a job was like buying time using silver and gold and so I ended up at home.

ARTISTIC TALENT

Born by a father who is an artist to date my art started since childhood through working with my father in his studio and as my core artist nicknamedme, my art is through inheritance. Though art was not taught in school in those days the understanding of art come to me at early age and by 1996 to 1997 I was an artist with his own name although my studies still barred me form many events of art and my art would speak for me whenever I was away and in 1997 September a lady by the name Jessica from Canada visited my father and got interested with my work. She started collecting my work which I used to dump in my bedroom until 2000 when she died through a road accident. Confusion stroked in but I continued drawing and dumping them in my bedroom but time to time I would take one or two of my work to Ngecha gallery until 2002 when I joined them completely. I use oil, acrylic, sometimes I do sculpture and color prints. My art goes from full & semi abstract, imaginative, rearistic, wildlife, stuational and not forgetting the most interesting the interpretation of my over night dreams.

Though my mission is to pass my talent to many young people as possible my income has shortened it all, but am proud at my age to have produced two artists namely Nachu Kariuki who works and reside in Greece and Judy Wanjiru who is still venturing in the field of art and currently working with two young boys aged 10 years who I hope with time they will be able to standby their own. Ideas and moral support are completely needed towards my dreams of eradicating poverty in my community by making sure each house hold in Ngecha has at least one artist hence my vision of making Ngecha village a tourist destination will come to reality.
