Born on 16th June 1943 in Ngecha village went to the first independent schools at Rironi in 1952 which later closed and the same year joined Old Ngecha Primary School in 1953. He later went to Ngecha Intermediate School in 1957 and in 1960 he attained a certificate of C.P.E.

From this year he was jobless and depended on farming until 1967 when he met Congolese of artist at Mombasa namely Raphael Irunga and care artist. He was employed to sell their work which were realistic landscapes drawn with brush. In 1969 he married and divorced in 1974 and later his wife died leaving two children.

While working with the artist he found himself drawing way back in 1969.he started doing banana fiber landscapes to make difference from the Congolese. In 1976 he moved from Mombasa to his origin home Ngecha. He changed his art from fiber work to modeling sculptures. He got more experienced with clay by visiting P.C.E.A community center at Eastleigh in Nairobi.

Today James works on his modeling and during spare time works in a Posho mill at his brothers farm here at Ngecha.
