Eluid Ngugi Kariuki’s Bio

I was born in a village called Gathiga Kabete location, Kiambu District, Central Province Country Kenya, in the year 1982.

I think I was created as an artist where I didn`t know whether I used to draw murals in my mothers womb. In the year 1986, I joined nursery school I used to do some art, as I remember, on the floor using some sticks and modeling.

I joined Mahiani primary school where I upgraded to art and craft. My teacher Mr. Karanja was the best in art at that time; because I loved art he pushed art in me.

After primary I joined Kihara high school and continued with art and craft and some wood work that’s when I decided to take art as my professional career.

After high school I had nothing to do at home and art was in my mind. I stayed home for more than three years when I decided to do some mural-work and sign writing.

In the year 2003 I decided to join college, so I joined YMCA Shaurimoyo to strengthen my career. I trained for diploma in art and design. I did my best and graduated in art, painting, screen printing, portraits, banana fibers’ arts, tie and dye, creating visual movement and floor design in the year 2005.

After schooling I was employed by a certain company then it collapsed due to a harsh economy. I never gave up I decided to work individually and did some art for the Maasai market. I sold some paintings, of which I did not like it, when a friend of mine came to me and told me about the group that was doing well in art. I visited the group at their workshop and they gave me a chance to join them. I decided to join the group, they are friendly and honest and now I am training with the group and cooping with life and its challenges. Due to them I am now passionate to work under all circumstances.

I paint at my workshop in Gathiaga village.
